Before going into academia, I was passionate about making music. I started playing flute around the age of 9, added piccolo in high school, and taught myself enough piano to be able to play simple songs. I came from a family of musicians, and we all assumed that I’d become a professional flutist.
In young adulthood, I started composing music and took voice lessons just so that I could have enough of a range to sing my own songs. (I’m not and never have been a singer.) I drafted 10 songs (melody, lyrics, and instrumental arrangements) and was passionate about producing them. But life happened; for a variety of reasons, I backburnered music and plunged into academia and all that followed.
Nearly 30 years later, I’ve returned to my humble musical beginnings and produced my songs, which I am grateful to be able to share.
